Natural Remedies for Stuffy Nose

Few natural herbal remedies which can help to get rid from stuffy nose:
- Steam inhalation is very effective remedy; it helps loosen the secretions and relaxes the muscles giving way to blocked mucus out. Adding turmeric, menthol crystals and camphor to boiling water just before inhaling helps a great deal.
- Turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties that help ease the symptoms of a cold. Consume a glass of hot milk with turmeric and ginger mixed, twice a day.
- Another useful home remedies for stuffy nose includes eating garlic pods on daily basis as it gives relief from flue and stuffy nose.
- Make tea using ginger and eucalyptus leaves. Simply stew the leaves in hot water for a while along with ginger. One can even add honey to this tea.
- Ginger tea, mixed with honey also helps to clear the air ways, as this provides soothing relief to the throat and clears the feeling of heavy headedness.
- Menthol is also found very useful in getting relief from flu symptoms. Rub some under your nose or try a nasal decongestant.
- Eucalyptus oil is one of the ingredients in many over the counter medicines. .
- Herbalists often use ginger root to treat colds and their symptoms, including stuffy nose and chest congestion. Make ginger tea by boiling a 5-inch piece of fresh ginger root in 2 cups of water for about 10 minutes. Remove the ginger root from the liquid, sweeten the tea with honey and lemon if desired and drink a cup every two to three hours until your stuffy nose subsides.
- Have five duly washed leaves of Tulsi every day in the morning. Tulsi keeps throat and lungs clear and helps in infections by way of strengthening your immunity.
- A small piece of camphor can be consumed once or twice in a month. It can be swallowed with water by adults while children can take it along with mashed potatoes or banana because they will find it difficult to have it without any aides. Please remember camphor is not to be taken every day, but only once each season, or once a month.
- Lemon and honey mixed in warm water can be consumed twice a day. The high concentration of vitamin C improves the resistance of the body, lowers the toxic nature of the infection, and reduces the total duration of the cold.
Some other home remedies can be tried to overcome the problem of stuffy nose like, eating hot and spicy foods is also useful when suffering from a stuffy nose. Hot soups will bring relief when you have a stuffy nose. You can choose from a variety of soups – chicken broth, vegetable soup, tomato and lentil soup. You can also drink hot herbal teas or tea brewed with spices. When you sleep, your head should be in an elevated position. This decreases the build-up of mucus.
