Natural Remedies For Sore Throat
Sore throat is one of the common problems of people all over the world. If doctor is consulted for these minor ailments, strong antibiotics are prescribed to give relief. Some easily available herbs can be taken without any side effects to cure these common problems.
Slippery Elm: It is very effective herb to be used for treating this problem. Inner bark of this is used which can reduce irritation, soothe sore throat and coat the throat. The mucilage of bark soothes the throat. It also contains oligomeric procyanidins that is antiseptic and anti-allergic.
Licorice: It has soothing properties and is widely used in cough syrups. It can taken as a tea to cure this problem. It can also be chewed to get relief from sore throat. Persons who are suffering from heart problem, high blood pressure, pregnant women and kidney patients should avoid using this herb.
Marshmallow: This herb is very important to cure this ailment and it contains mucilage which can coat and soothe sore throat. The juice of the marshmallow plant is a very effective remedy to cure dry coughs and sore throats. It can be taken as a tea also but diabetic patients and pregnant women should avoid this herb.
Honeysuckle Flower: It is most commonly used remedy for sore throat. It tastes sweet and can be taken in tea form also. Handful of this herb can be taken in a pan and add water accordingly, after boiling for fifteen minutes, strain it for cooling and then add some honey to consume.
Basil Leaves: Basil leaves are very useful for sore throat. Boil some water with basil leaves and use this solution for gargle to get relief from sore throat.
Lemon And Honey: Add lemon juice in a glass of hot water and mix some honey. Drink this slowly. This will provide immediate relief to sore throat.
Ginger: Take some small slices of it to make tea by boiling in water and add honey to taste. It is an effective remedy to cure sore throat.
Echinacea: This herb is a good remedy for cold related problems. It can be taken as tea, one to two gm of dried herb can be used to make tea. In tincture form it can also be used. Take it two to three times daily for seven to ten days.
Grapefruit Seed Extract: The extract of the grapefruit seed is a powerful all-around antimicrobial product. This is an excellent disinfectant and antiseptic to treat this problem. It is advisable to add five drops to a glass of water for a soothing gargle for the throat.
Hyssop: Steep two teaspoons of dried hyssop in one cup of boiling water. Wait for ten minutes then strain. It is good to drink it cool as an expectorant, for relieving coughs, congestion, and sore throat drink hot. This herb contains marrubiin which is used in as an ingredient in expectorants.
Apple Cider Vinegar: It is an excellent remedy to get rid of sore throat. Mix one to two teaspoon of ACV in a glass of water and gargle with this. You can repeat it every hour to get quick relief. Acidity will kill the bacteria and you may get relief within 24 hours.
