Natural Remedies For Menstrual Cramps
Menstrual cramps create a feeling of dull pain in the lower abdomen before or during the menstrual periods. This pain can move to the low back or thigh area causing loose stools, sweating, dizziness and nausea. There are two types of menstrual cramps, the primary and secondary. The primary cramps can start within several years after the first period with no physical abnormality. The secondary cramps are associated with a health condition such as uterine fibroids, uterine polyps, and pelvic inflammation. Some natural remedies are effective to treat this problem.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Flax oil (linseed oil) is the richest natural source of it, hemp oil is the best balance of omega 6:3, rapeseed oil, pumpkin seeds, walnuts, and soybean oil are also rich in omega 6. Use these natural sources in your diet regularly to get the benefit of omega-3 fatty acids.
Magnesium: It is a mineral which is found in foods like green leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds and whole grain to cure this disease. In menstrual cramps magnesium helps in two ways. First, it is a muscle relaxant and helps to tone muscles. Second thing is that it increases the body’s ability to absorb calcium and other minerals that helps to reduce menstrual cramps.
Olive or Corn Oil: Heat a few tablespoons of olive or corn oil to massage the lower area of the abdomen and lower back to get quick relief from this disease during the periods. It should be massaged in the morning, during cycle to remain pain free in period.
Pickle Juice: This juice should be drunk regularly near the start of the periods to get instant relief from this disease. The juice can be used to make an ice candy to eat and heal the cramps easily. Take it twice in a day to get pain relief in menstrual cramps as natural remedy.
Heat Pack: The heat pack can be made at home by taking two square pieces of clothe to be sewn together and put a handful of rice to heat it up to put it on the abdomen to get instant relief from this disease without any medications. It should not be too hot to create any problem.
Evening Primrose Oil: Taking evening primrose oil daily helps to block the inflammatory prostaglandin hormone that causes menstrual cramps. It also gives relief in breast tenderness that some women experience just before periods.
Pumpkin Seeds: Make a habit of eating pumpkin seeds one week before your period is starting. Eat about quarter of cup pumpkin seeds during period and this will make you pain free.
Acupressure is also a method to cure this problem as an alternative remedy. The pressure is applied on the particular points to heal this disease effectively. Bony point of the inner ankle and lower calf may be pressured for five seconds with thumb or middle finger to get quick relief. Do it regularly to cure this problem without any side effects.
