Home Remedies for Eye Infections
Our eyes are the windows through which we view the world around us but they can be quite prone to infections caused by bacteria, allergens and irritants. An eye infection causes inflammation and is not a serious problem if it is treated immediately. Identify what type of eye infection you have – bacterial, viral or fungal. Allergies can also cause eye irritation that can closely mimic an eye infection. If you are suffering from an eye infection, or frequently have them, there is something you can do to greatly reduce the chances of getting these infections. The vision of this article is to provide you with some natural home remedies for eye infection. Just make sure you are using it safely and with extreme caution.
Tea Bags: Tea contains tannin acid, which will relax the muscles around the eyes and reduce inflammation get some tea bags and add them to some cold water. After soaking them in the cold water, put them over your eyes. In a very short period of time, it’ll draw the infection out of your eyes.
Salt and Water Solution: Take 2 cups of boil water and add teaspoon of sea salt. Let it cool and then put in some cotton balls and let them soak and get saturated sinking to the bottom. Take out some cotton balls and put the soaked cotton balls on your eyes. Do this for about 5 minutes and let the salt water go into your eye. The salt will kill the bacteria causing the infection.
Lemon Juice: Take a lemon/lime and squeeze some juice into your eye. It may itch in the beginning but, don’t rub your eyes. Use a towel to dab your eye. Open your eye and move it all around to cover it good with the juice. Once you can easily open your eye; then, repeat the process. Between 12 and 24 hours, you can repeat it again.
Honey is a natural antibiotic. You can put honey directly in your eyes or make honey eyewash by using three tablespoons of honey in two cups of boiling water. Honey should thoroughly dissolve with hot water. When it has cooled, put a few drops in the infected eye as needed.
Contact lens cleanser: An important thing to do is to flush out all impurities and bacteria from your eyes. You can do that by washing your eyes with an effective eye wash. The contact lens solution has boric acid which is what does away with the germs. It does not give any burning sensation and you can use it as much as you want during the day or until the problem goes away.
Turmeric Solution: Turmeric is a natural antiseptic. Make your own eye drops by mixing turmeric powder and water. Just put a few drops in your eyes every once in a while, and this will disinfect your eyes.
Water Therapy: Splash each eye with water. Do this thrice a day. Take distilled water in an eye glass and dip eyes in it. Blink 10 times and then replace water and follow the same procedure 5 times for each eye. Repeat this 3 times a day.
Aloe Vera has healing properties that help in reducing irritation and inflammation. Slit the leaf vertically and use the clear pulpy gel for immediate relief. Repeat this several times throughout the day.
Sometimes eye irritation is more than a sign of a simple eye infection that can indicate serious medical conditions. However, if infection shows no sign of improving in a day or two and the eye pain is very severe and gets worse as time goes on, also if vision is cloudy, see a doctor right away because you only get one pair of eyes so vision eye care is important.
