Best Home Remedies for Dry Cough

- The easiest and a quick reliever is honey plus lemon juice. Honey soothes the throat whereas lemon is a natural immunity booster. A tablespoon of honey mixed with a few drops of lemon juice if had two to three times a day should show results in 2-3 days period.
- Ginger juice or onion juice can also be consumed instead of lemon juice in the aforementioned recipe. They both help in removing the phlegm. A spoon of honey added in a cup of green tea can be had twice a day.
- If the voice box (larynx) is hurting then salt water gargles (one glass of hot water mixed with half a spoon of salt) is also a powerful home remedy for dry cough.
- If oregano is freely available in your part of the world then boil oregano in a cup of water and drink it after initial filtering. Having half a spoon of turmeric powder in a glass of hot milk and having it twice a day has many benefits like curing cough as well as strengthening the bones.
One of the very popular recipes mentioned in Ayurveda’s as a home remedy for dry cough is as follows:
2 tablespoons of water
1 table spoon of apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon of honey
¼ teaspoon of ground ginger
¼ teaspoon of cayenne pepper
The above mixture taken two to three times a day works wonders with dry cough.
However, it’s highly recommended to work on eating habits during a cough attack. Avoid having fried food till the time the dry cough disappears. Refrain yourself from grabbing a cold drink or chilled beer during this period. Have as many as hot beverages like herbal tea and warm milk as possible.
